Takahe

There were four official sightings of the Takahe between 1800 and 1900 so they were presumed extinct. Dr Geoffrey Orbell still believed that there Takahe on the Murchison Mountains. After searching around he found some Takahe. He rediscovered the Takahe on the 20th of November 1948. Then scientists predicted there would still be around 250 Takahe still living. That’s why the mountain is now called Takahe Valley and the lake, Lake Orbell.
