TERM 2 2012
Welcome back from a lovely sunny 2 week holiday! I hope everyone had time to enjoy the beautiful weather we had.
Although short, term 1 was action packed with swimming sports for year 5, trips to the beach and finishing with very successful parent-teacher interviews. In addition, students uploaded their first piece of work to the new on line portolio system - 'KNET' Be sure to log on and comment on your student's work.
Term 2 Topics.
Y4: Keeping Ourselves Safe (week 1-3 ), Jump Rope (week 4-10)
Y5: Keeping Ourselves Safe (week 1-3 ), Ancient Egypt (week 4-10).
We start the term with an informative unit which focuses on children's personal safety. In the second, longer unit will delve into the world of the Egyptians! This will include lots of hands-on and practical activities and, hopefully, an 'Ancient Egyptian Day' later in the term. Our art will be encorporated into this as we try to replicate the styles of the Egyptians and make some death masks!
English
This term year 5 will be focusing on narratives. This genre always proves popular as children love to write stories. We will be reading, discussing and then writing stories with a particular focus on fantasy stories (think Harry Potter!)
Maths
We will continue with our focus on number and teaching the children to use a range of fast and efficient strategies to solve problems. Year 5 will also be covering statistics and measurement.
PE / Syndicate Sport
Our focus for term 2 is large ball skills. During the term we will be playing soccer, touch rugby, dodgeball / kingball, basketball, volleyball, netball. As part of PE sessions the children willl work on ball skills which they will put in practice during our syndicate sport sessions every TUESDAY. The year 5 students should now be into a routine of wearing their sports uniform for PE sessions. Please check with the class teacher which days your child has PE and will need their sports uniform for.
