Room 19

Welcome to Room 19

Welcome back to term 2!

Topic – In the first 3 weeks we are learning about ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe’. Our focus is looking at the importance of knowing where we live, what happens if we get lost and what to do.  We then move onto what we need to do to stay safe if we are put in an awkward situation. From week 4 we look at the topic ‘What’s under my skin’. Students will understand how and why we need to look after ourselves through healthy eating, exercise and protecting our own body.

Physical Education – Our focus is large balls, students will be learning skills and strategies needed to play large ball games like basketball, netball, soccer, rugby etc. Syndicate sport will continue to run on a Thursday afternoon where classes compete against other classes in syndicate three.

Reading – A guided reading book that has been read with the teacher or a pick and mix book needs to be taken home each night from Monday to Thursday. On Friday poetry books will be taken home to complete their illustrations and to go over the poem of the week or poems from previous weeks.

Writing- Procedural writing is our focus for the first part of the term. We will complete a range of different hands on learning experiences to help learn about the language and structural features of this type of writing.

Maths – We will continue to develop our Addition and Subtraction strategies and number knowledge. Geometry is our strand focus.
