Term 2, 2012

Dear Parents and Friends of Room 9,

Welcome back to the start of another school term. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday break and are refreshed and ready to get through the next term.

This term we are starting off our topic with the Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme.  You should have had a letter home about it and most of you will probably remember students doing it in earlier years at school.  For those of you new to it, the programme is designed to teach students how to recognise when they are feeling uncomfortable in a situation and when and who to go to for help. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to come and talk to me about it.

Following on from that, we will be studying Ancient Egypt.  The students are already looking forward to this topic and are bringing in books and things to show in the classroom already, even though we aren't starting until Week 4!

We also have our assembly in Week 6.  This is also cause for excitement and ideas are beginning to flow from the students.  From discussions so far, it looks like there may be an Egyptian theme.

In mathematics, we have been doing Measuring for our Strand work.  We have measured things inside and outside the classroom (taking advantage of lovely, sunny weather) but will soon be back into Number Knowledge.  Please remember to quiz your child on basic facts as much as possible, especially pairs to 20, doubles and halves and times tables.

For Physical Education this term, we will be spending time learning/practicing football and netball skills.  We will then be playing games using these skills on Tuesday afternoons so make sure the P.E uniform is in your childs bag, especially if they might be going to get a bit wet or muddy!

Kind regards,

Caroline Glover
