Home Support Ideas

As you are now aware, we no longer set formal homework for our Year 1 students. We do, however, want you and your child to read the daily guided reader together and read our poems at the weekend.

In addition, there are many other ways in which you can support your child's learning. Below are some suggestions (I will be adding to this throughout the term view this page periodically for further ideas):

  • Practise maths addition and subtraction facts. Mathletics is a great fun way to do this or play simple board and dice games.
  • Play "I Spy" - this can even be when you are out and about walking or in the car. Try including letter "sounds" as well as letter names.
  • For another great way to practise our alphabet skills go to Alphablocks
  • Make a simple BIngo game using the first basic sight words. You can see some examples of words we are learning to recognise on our class "Word Tree".
  • Of course, model and discuss new and interesting vocabulary and sentence structures with your child.
  • Discuss our current integrated topic, "Move It" with your child. Find out what we have been learning.
